Aunt Abbie's Musical - Beauty & The Beast Jr.

Last night we had a family adventure on all fronts. Daddy stayed home with Tavin for the first time, all on their own with the bedtime routine (including a bottle which Tavin is on again/off again with). And Koen, Gramma and I were off to Aunt Abbie's musical. Abbie is the music teacher (and program director) at Propel McKeesport. The musical was in Elizabeth at the Grand Theatre.
We've always been intimidated by the South Hills and I took the packed Rt. 51S to get to the musical, thankfully this is the 3rd musical and so we knew what we were getting into and left an hour and a half before the show and made it in plenty of time.

Unfortunately, there was a mishap at the theatre and one of the kids was injured (but safe shortly thereafter), but the show was delayed by a half hour. Koen, having eaten two-thirds of his "snacky dinner" in the car, started to get restless, but managed pretty well until the curtains opened.

He definitely has an ear for music and has way better natural rythm than I do! The Beast and the wolves in the forest were a little scary to him at first, but I tried to lighten them up (the wolves look like a husky, like Fresca! and wow, the Beast's hair is a wild mess!).Intermission was almost a deal breaker as it was about 8:30pm and Koen goes to bed usually an hour earlier. He did pretty well though, and again, when the curtain opened, he was riveted and interested until the final bow.

Probably the sweetest thing all night was just watching how much he loves his Aunt Abbie. She came over to say hi to us in the beginning and he says, "I like your pretty dress, Aunt Abbie." Then halfway through the show as he has been watching her conduct the actors from her director's chair the whole time, he says, "I want to be Aunt Abbie someday, Mommy,...someday." And we couldn't leave until he had given many "big hugs and kisses" to Aunt Abbie. We love you, Aunt Abbie!!
The show itself was so entertaining for Mom and I as well. The kids were hilarious in their roles as well as letting their personalities show too. Abbie did a great job with the whole musical. A beautiful set, the best costumes yet, more kids than ever I think were involved (that is a lot to handle!) and the performance was so enjoyable! Good job, Ab, you made it!

We headed home quickly afterwards (with a Chik-fil-A drive thru stop as we were all hungry!). Koen was beside himself tired when we got home to see Daddy. He told him a little bit about the musical and then melted down during his bedtime routine with him, so I had to step in. Oh well, you can't expect too much of a toddler. He did a great job holding it together while in public. =)

By the way, I have to mention that Daddy and Tavin did great. They played, Tavin took his last nap of the day (Daddy managed to let him cry it out in the beginning as he had trouble falling asleep), then Doug woke him up, fed him with a bottle, which he downed! Then Doug got him to lay down with only a few brief minutes of crying. Good job, Daddy!
