With the temps in the high 90's and the humidity in the 80th percentile, I was so, so happy that we had indoor, fun plans today. Summer Break was truly a much anticipated break! Koen was super excited because Doug told him that today Chef Luke was going to be teaching them to cook. Koen had the great idea then of packing his apron to wear. How cute?!?!
We got out of the house pretty quickly so that we could stop at the new Target for Koen to check out the cool new escalators (they transport your cart for you), then we headed on to the church to meet up with our friends and get on with Summer Break.
Chef Luke (and the awesome interns, Pete and Allison, and staffer, Megan) did a great job with the activity today. The kids were so into making their own pizzas and then a fun and pretty healthy dessert (thanks, Luke!). Luke had put so much time into the prep and he even worked the activity into an object lesson and talked about the parable of yeast in the book of Matthew. He is such a natural teacher and just very dynamic and interesting. The kids all listened and really connected with him. It was great. I was so impressed! Here's a pic of Luke explaining the dessert... And then all the little guys and girlsl working on their own...While Koen enjoyed all that upstairs, Tavin and I did the Sprouts of Faith music program with his baby buddies downstairs. He just comes alive in this time. He's social, chatty, active and responsive. It's really fun to see him develop outside of his time with Big Brother. I love seeing them together, but I am so thankful for little opportunities like this to let Tavin develop as an individual, independent of what brother is up to. Not to mention, look how cute he is in his linen overalls and no shirt (what's the point of a shirt when you are that cute and it's so hot outside!?!).
It was a great morning, thanks Northway Oakland!!
