It was another 90 degree day today so I decided it was a great excuse to give the boys a break from sunscreen and sweat and head indoors to the AC and the fun at the Carnegie Science Center. We invited our friends, Hilary, Delia and Huck to join us too. It was a great morning. I think the kids really enjoyed the break from the outdoor activity we've been enjoying lately and a chance to let loose amidst all the exploration stations at the museum was the perfect fix.
We stopped at the train display on the 2nd floor first (we have our favorite spots that seem to cater to little ones). Tavin was just enraptured by the trains. He loved it! It was really fun to see him enjoying this aspect of the museum as on previous trips, this section was usually just enjoyed by Koen.
Next we headed to the fourth floor where there is a special enclosed section for little kids. It's great because they don't let big kids in and are good at policing that, so the little ones are quite safe only having to ward off others their own size.
Koen and Delia were very independent which was fun to see. They spent some time at the water table and most other things explored individually and then would bump into each other from time to time.Tavin had his hands in everything. He specifically enjoyed wearing a smock at the water table (he was so proud of himself). And he also loved playing on the playground area they have in there. After watching Huck walk across the shaky bridge, Tavin did it too. Again, he was so, so proud of himself!
Before we left to eat lunch in the cafeteria area, I took Delia and Koen in the earthquake exhibit. They thought it was a ride, it was so fun to sit in there with them as they enjoyed it (although I did feel a little car sick). Then they stumbled on the solar-powered car exhibit. Koen really caught on to it and really enjoyed the challenge of lighting up the solar panels in order to make the car go through the different stages of the race track. I was really impressed how he understood the concept. I love seeing his mind work like that.
The museum turned out to be a perfect change to our normal summer routine and we all benefited from it. Thanks for keeping us company Hilary, Delia and Huck. We love spending time with you indoors or out!
