Yesterday was quite a day! Koen had nursery school during which he embarked on his first field trip (with Daddy as a participating chaperone). He and his classmates visited CMU to see an art display that their teacher, Miss Dowe, has been working on as part of her graduate program there. Doug said that the kids did really well taking in the art and their teachers did a fabulous job making it interactive, fun and understandable by playing iSpy, talking about the pieces and then having their own art presentation. About two weeks ago each child was sent home with a toilet paper roll to use to create whatever they wanted and then they would bring it back to the class to show-and-tell. Since at that time we had just gotten back from Florida, we glued shells onto Koen's tube and called a treasure telescope. He was really into it when we glued on the first batch of shells, but lost interest after that, so I didn't push it and he went in with a semi-shell-covered tube to present. They did present them last week at school, but also presented them again yesterday with everyone gathered at the field day. Doug said he did a great job explaining it and talking in front of his peers, which is a neat developmental thing in my opinion in and of itself (we'll work on the crafting some more next time =)). Doug also said there were some super impressive creations by his classmates. Koen didn't seem to notice though. I think his favorite part of the field trip was that Daddy came. Here are some pics of the nursery school outing to CMU... Aren't they just so cute! I love that there are so many boys and only 2 girls in his class. Koen is now familiar with boys vs. girls (prior to nursery school I don't think he payed much attention to what was what), but it's so cute because he calls girls, "grills." I would've loved to hear his comment about whatever this piece of art represents. The teacher that's holding him up is the one who is doing the program at CMU.
