Stone Harbor, Part III

Written yesterday afternoon/evening...

Today is gorgeous! Our first and only plan was the beach for today. The boys slept great again last night. Tavin woke us all up a little before 7am, but Doug and I snuck out and then went back in for Koen around 7:15am. Tavin talked to himself for a few more minutes and then went back to sleep for an hour. I love it when things go according to plan. Since most of the house is still quiet when we let Koen get out of the room, we let him watch a show on Doug's iPad, so he's totally happy. Koen and Doug made our little family a nice omelette, potatoes and fruit breakfast and then we got ready for the beach. Preparing for the beach is quite a process, so we didn't get out fast, by any means, but it's all worth it. We take our bikes instead of the car so we don't have to load in and out of a hot vehicle and then we also don't have to deal with all that sand in the car seats. The boys like the quick few block bike ride. Today Doug's brother Scott, his wife, Jen and their son, Casey were at the beach with us. Koen played so well with Casey. He just wanted to do whatever Casey was doing and Casey is such a sweet boy, he was so kind to play with Koen! They drove the trucks around and built all sorts of interseting sand creations.Tavin enjoyed climbing in and out of the huge pool they made. Tavin also tried sand again. Oh dear! This time he did get really mad, but he bounced back quickly thankfully. He and I enjoyed some fun time out in the waves (like my new hat?).We lasted about an hour and a half before the boys were hungry, caked with sand and ready for some shade. Koen probably would've stayed there through lunch, but Tavin doesn't really understand how to eat at the beach. He can't keep his hands out of the sand long enough to eat anything without sand included, so it's very frustrating. We were happy we came back to the house as we had a nice lunch with the boys, they played with their cousins for a little while and then settled down for their tandem nap which again worked out very well. Doug and I took a nice little bike ride (about 45 minutes) to a farm stand and back to get corn on the cob for our dinner tonight. On our way back to the house we stopped at the ocean to cool off by wading in the waves. Ah, bliss!

It was our turn to cook dinner, but Danny helped Doug with the grilling. After our very yummy, but simple meal of chicken sausages, corn on the cob and a tasty salad the boys played some more with their cousins. After dinner seems to be a time when Tavin really springs to life and likes to practice walking. Enjoy this great video!

After I laid Tavin down, I came up to find Nana doing storytime for the younger boys.Koen was so into it. I love special moments like that. Simple, quality, special. Thanks, Nana!

Koen is on his way to bed now, then I think Doug and I will head on our evening walk. Seriously, I wouldn't mind living near the beach on a permanent basis!!!!
