Congratulations, Tavin! 100 Reading Lessons Complete!

On February 27th, Tavin officially completed the "How to Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" curriculum.  And he now knows how to read at a first-grade level.  Wow!  Congratulations, Tavin!  We started last April and used to do one full lesson a day.  Over the summer, the lessons grew longer and he was getting frustrated, so I began breaking the lessons down into two parts and we did one part a day.  This Fall, we also began only doing reading lessons on weekdays to give him a break on the weekends when Koen was around.  So, obviously the program has taken us longer than 100 days (more like about 300), but this was the way it worked for Tavin and I'm just so proud that he kept at it and completed the whole course.  Here's what Lesson 100 looked like...

And here's just a snippet of Tav reading the story from Lesson 100.
With such a huge accomplishment as learning to read in the past 10 months, we absolutely had to celebrate with Tavin.  So, on Saturday night we ordered pizza and had chocolate ice cream for dessert.  I made Tavin a special certificate that he was pretty proud to receive to make it official.
The boys enjoying their special treat of order-out pizza (yes, I know Penn's eyes are crossed!  It's his new favorite thing to do in pictures...oh my!).
And chocolate ice cream dessert.
Congratulations, Tavin.  You did a great job persevering through 100 reading lessons this year.  You totally deserved this fun night of celebrating together and you also earned the ability to say you can now read!!  I love you, Tavin.  I'm so impressed already with your hard work, your bright mind and your ability to accomplish the tasks set before you.
