Best Home Depot Kids Workshop Ever

Did you know that Home Depot offers a free kids workshop monthly?  Yep, they do.  We've known for awhile and attend a few.  Lowe's has a similar program and we've enjoyed that as well.  But on Saturday, our Home Depot in East Liberty had THE BEST workshop yet.  It was a "make your own fire rescue plane," but because of the fact that it is Fire Safety Month, they also had a cookout, fire trucks, ambulances, a traveling petting zoo and free Lego kit giveaways.  Yeah, a little boys dream morning right there.  Thank goodness we were signed up!  I had a morning with Penn and Doug, Tav and Koen did this...

This is adorable.  Tav is choosing his hammer.
Koen took this action shot of Doug helping Tavin.
Doug said the boys did a great job with the fire plane project.  Doug and Tavin would do the project step first and Koen would watch, then Koen would do that step on his plane on his own.  Here you can see that Koen took on some friends and helped them apply their decals.
After building fire planes the boys went exploring.  They had some chats with Pittsburgh's bomb squad.  The boys were in awe of the robot that goes in to check out bombs.
I cannot believe that Tav got close to this suit of armor.  No one is inside of it, but it still looks creepy!
Next they took a tour of an ambulance.  Look at them listening to the paramedic!
And Koen driving the ambulance. =)
Koen was brave enough to pet the 3 foot alligator (gross!).
Tav touched the turtle.  Apparently it took off at a sprint afterwards.
Koen also got to pretend to drive the ambulance.

And the brothers got to check out the back of the fire truck together.
So was that not a touchdown of a Daddy morning with his big boys?  If you haven't taken your kids to one of these, you should give it a try.  They aren't usually this awesome, but it's pretty great to just make a hands-on project with your kiddos for free.  Check it out, the Melders highly recommend it!
