Block Party

I love our neighborhood! For 23 years, there has been a block party on our street. It's so fun to be a part of this tradition. All the neighbors come out with a dish to share. The police block the street off. The firefighters come with a fire truck for the kids to check out. They even open up a hydrant for the kids to cool off in. So urban and so fun! It's also really neat to see that there are so many different generations on our street, including a plethora of young families and many babies (seriously a four day old infant was there and many month to 6 month old little ones...total baby boom!).

Mom and Dad got to enjoy the experience and get to know some of our sweet neighbors. It was fun sharing the night with them and giving them a glimpse of our community. Koen loved talking to the firemen with Grampa and checking out their truck.Tavin thought it was so fun to go up and down the curb on the side of the road, getting to go on the forbidden asphalt and not just stay on the sidewalk (this is not going to be an easy thing to re-teach after such a fun night).A great last night before we head off on vacation. Pray for Mom, Dad and Ab as they hang here with the kids. If today is any indication, it will be a fantastic time (the kids just loved being with their grandparents). Look for updates from vacation. It will be fun to blog about Doug and I and our adventures for a change. =)
