Loving Low Key Weekend With Daddy

This was the first weekend in several weeks that we've had Daddy around for his days off and it's been so great for all of us. Koen actually thanked God in his prayer that there was no rain and that "Daddy was with us for two whole days off." So sweet. We love our family time with you, Douglas!

I already reported in my posts yesterday about our Friday with Doug, but last night he took the boys out on the bikes. Koen was ecstatic to be biking with Daddy and Tavin (although a little frigid and snotty) was so happy to be along for the ride. This morning I asked Doug to do a few projects around the house and so he got himself charged up on coffee and then he and Koen were "on the job" as Bob the Builder would say. Koen immediately rushed to get his toolbox, toolbelt and hard hat. Here he is spotting Daddy on the ladder as they replaced lightbulbs.Doug kept Koen busy for about an hour and a half with the simple jobs and then when they were working in the basement, Koen worked at his painting station and was happy to be doing something he rarely gets to do and not to mention, Daddy was there too.

When we finally all finished our projects (I did some touch-up painting with Tavin, although it got a little too messy), we headed out to Mellon Park for some playtime and then on to lunch at Mad Mex with Sean, Jen and Michael. It was chaotic and disorganized there today. We love their food, but the service certainly left something to be desired today. Oh well, the company was fantastic and the boys did great staying patient despite naptime creeping up on us.

After nap we took the boys to the playground down the street. Koen and Doug were off ahead of Tavin and I as Koen was on his bike and Tavin was, of course, pulling the enormous wagon. He finally conceded and let me pull him the last third of the way. He is so determined, but the pace is so slow! Look how cute!Note the gash under his eye today. Poor guy. When I was walking up to wake him up this morning he started screaming. He had pulled a letter (his name hangs over his crib) down onto himself and it fell on his eye (ironic that it was the letter "i" that fell). Thankfully he was more upset about the missing letter (under his bed) than the pain to his face. I'm surprised it didn't bruise, just the cut for now. Don't worry, I have now secured all the letters with double-sided mounting tape, so he won't have such a rude awakening again. While at the playground, Koen and I raced up and down behind the school. He loves it! He always thinks he wins or we tie even though I usually beat him (Doug thinks I should let him win, is it bad that I prefer to let him get a dose of reality?). Tavin thought it was hilarious to be a part of the race in his "chariot" this evening.Doug and I were really enjoying our boys tonight and just all being together. I think you can see it on our faces.Such a great weekend. Thanks, baby. We love you!
