It's Project Time, Part I

So, I think awhile ago I mentioned that we had a little issue when we went to NH and our refrigerator line leaked while we were gone.  We're not sure how long the leak went on, but we do know that when we got home the tile was saturated (gushing water when we walked on it) and the basement had a large puddle of water about an inch deep (the rest flowed into the drain down there, thank goodness).  Anyways, we clearly had an issue.  ServPro was here for a week drying things out and then insurance surveyed the situation and deemed that we needed to replace the fridge and the floor.  We were obviously relieved and blessed by their decision, but initially I had no idea what it meant to replace the floor.  It is a HUGE deal!!  They have to remove all the appliances, lower cabinets, island, granite, washer/dryer, set-tub...everything!  That means we are basically going to endure a kitchen remodel, but only get the new floor.  Anyways, we hired a highly recommended contractor for the job and he was able to start today.  That explains why I haven't blogged in awhile.  This past week has been a lot of preparation in every way (laundry, baking, unloading everything that is the kitchen and laundry room to every other part of the house, etc.).  Doug's done a ton of the moving and relocating too.  Here are a few pictures of my prep work.  Our new pantry and eating area...
Our kitchen-ish area.
Cleaning station and some other random items that needed a home (chore charts, home work, etc.).
Today was Day 1 of the project.  Here's what's been accomplished so far.  Stove and pantry in dining room.
Granite backsplash gone.
Pretty bare kitchen!
Our contractor pulled up some tile to see what lay beneath as he was curious how many layers he'd have to go through.  Well, we found out why for years the tile was breaking (although nothing like after the leak!), whoever installed it did so over the old hardwood.  At least this means it'll be easy to pry up!
Tomorrow apparently is going to get real crazy and messy.  Big hope is that the longest slab of granite won't crack when they remove it!  Stay tuned for status updates.  Should take 2-3 weeks.  Don't worry, I won't post daily!!
