Family Day at Great Island Common

There is a family tradition on my Mom's side. Every summer the sisters (there are 5 of them) get together with whatever of their kids are around and gather in New Castle, NH at Great Island Common. It is a great park right on the ocean. It has a special place in my heart as we have been keeping this tradition since I was really little and when my grandparents were both still alive and would be there too.

Part of the tradition is that Dad always grills on this tiny charcoal stove. Classic! The burgers and dogs were great (and we made Dad cook Turkey dogs and he didn't mind them too much!).

Koen has been able to go to New Castle before with us for this tradition, but today was Tavin's first time participating. Both of the boys did very well. Koen having skipped his nap the past two days, was quite tired. He really enjoyed playing with his second cousins. They are all quite a bit older than him, but they were very sweet to let him share in their fun. Koen led Owen and Jarod in "Simon Says" and the boys also let him "play" wiffle ball a little bit.

Koen also did very well getting to know some of my Aunts and Uncles. It is always so special to me to see our boys meet and get to know the generations above them. What a blessing!Koen had quite a few adventures today (in between near meltdowns due to overtiredness!). He got to fly a kite for the first time with Grampa. He and I also spent about an hour on the beach there at the park. It was a little chilly for swimming today as there was a cool breeze and it was only about 72 while we were there on shore. We had fun digging in the rocky, wet sand though.

Tavin was the talk of the gathering as he is so sweet and precious. He did a lot of "talking" calling out to everyone. So cute! He enjoyed his meal in his stroller and then proceeded to eat his shoe.

It was a special (although draining) day. God is good. I love seeing family and sharing Koen and Tavin with them.
