Boys Will Be Boys

Today we had a fun playdate with my friend Allison and her three kids (plus a sweet little 9 month old she babysits).  She has two boys and a girl.  Poor Abigail, her girl, she was just inundated with rowdy boys!  Thankfully she's used to it and is a pro at dealing with being surrounded by boys.  Koen and Tavin hadn't seen Josiah and Samuel in about a year really and so it took about a half hour for them to all re-acclimate, but once they did they were up to classic boyish pastimes....pestering bees, sharpening sticks, shooting water guns, digging in the dirt, playing in the mud, etc.  It was such a fun time to watch the boys just be boys with some buddies and have a blast doing it.  Here are a few pics from our visit...

Penn was interested in everything.  He spent a little time playing trucks (including making awesome sound effects and voices) in the sandbox.
He also liked hanging out in their cool, homemade tent.
He saw the big boys trying out some foam ball shooters and thought he'd try his hand at it.  He was really good at it!

Note that my boys aren't wearing shirts because Allison's boys weren't wearing shirts.  When Koen asked to take his off, I said yes (pretty obvious he wanted to run around shirtless like his friends) and then Penn started crying that he was so hot and his shirt was hurting him and he wanted to take it off.  Oh boy, the drama!  Tav kept his on for a bit after I pleaded with him so I wouldn't have to slather him with sunscreen, but after I realized much of their yard was shaded, he too went shirtless.  Boys!  Here's the big boys torturing a chipmunk hole with sticks and water guns.

Jansen slept through much of the visit.  I snuck upstairs to check on him and had to wake him up from the sweetest passed out/summer breeze sleep ever.  And, also, at one point do we stop sleeping like this?!
Here's the crew at lunchtime.  That's a lot of kiddos (FYI, the sitting up baby is Silas, not Janse, Jansen is in my lap).
Thanks to Allison and the kids for being such gracious hosts and sharing all your toys, your yard and your home with us.  We had a blast (so much so that I think we'll be back next week!).
