Father's Day 2014

The lovely weather continued for Father's Day, so we took full advantage.  Douglas had to work in the AM obviously, but the boys all greeted him with Father's Day loves before he left and I prepared him a special breakfast to take to work to get him through the long morning.  The boys and I got to see him again at the 9am service.  And then afterwards we headed to the first installment of Pittsburgh's wonderful "Bach, Beethoven and Brunch" at Mellon Park for a picnic with the Nate and Megan and their kids (our usual Sunday buds).  It was a great concert, lots of big band numbers which is a favorite type of music for me (and an easy one for the boys to get behind).

Koen found a climbing tree, so he was up it right away.  So proud of himself.
After finishing up our picnic, we headed across the street to Mellon Park's playground and spray park.  The boys were dying to get to this portion of our outdoor time.  First spray park visit of 2014!  Penn was a little nervous about all the sprinklers, etc., but he scampered independently all over the playground instead.
Tavin and Koen had no problem getting wet and even waiting under the buckets to be dumped on!

Most of the spray park is in the shade and the weather was in the mid-70's, so the boys had to take some sun breaks to warm up.  Tav looks half-frozen, but he didn't mind at all, it was worth the fun I think he'd say!
We ended up leaving the park around 1pm and did Daddy a big Father's Day favor and picked him up in Oakland before heading home.  We all had a relatively restful afternoon and then were ready to head back outdoors for the late afternoon/evening.  We had so much fun at The Porch in Oakland for Mother's Day that Doug requested we go there for Father's Day dinner too.  I was a big fan of not cooking (and being outdoors), so I was definitely on board!  We invited Megan and Sky to join us as Sky got to celebrate his first official Father's Day so we had a lovely family and friend time.  The boys had a little surprise for Doug.  Homemade cards!

Here's Penn and his sweet buddy, Marshall.
We took full advantage of the green space right next to our outdoor table and got the boys out on the plaza during any waiting period during the meal.  It was excellent!  Look at these sweet guys and their boys.

It was a great day for a great guy.  Douglas, thanks for being so passionate about being a dad.  You are an exceptional father and a real reflection of so many of the traits our Heavenly Father possesses and shows to us.  I'm so thankful to have you as my partner in this parenting journey!  I love you!
