Daddy in DC, Mommy with her little men

Doug was away this weekend, so it was Mommy and her boys all weekend long (well except for a fun evening out on Saturday to attend a friend's birthday party and an awesome friend babysat the boys).  We actually had a fantastic weekend.  Koen was in wonderful spirits, which was a huge blessing both because it made the weekend so much easier, but also because it made me so excited for summertime just enjoying all 3 boys together out in the fresh air, every day doing our thing.  We had gorgeous weather this weekend, so we spent as much time outside as possible.  Friday evening after Koen was home from school and the little guys were up from naps we spent hours at a local playground with the big boys riding their bikes, Penn playing and they all enjoyed a picnic.  On Saturday morning we had a two-year-old birthday party to attend and then since I had Koen (he was a little bit like a caged lion amongst all the little ones in a small space on a sunny day), we made an early exit and played and lunched at Blue Slide Park.  Here are a few pics.

As you can see, it was a lot of fun.  Unfortunately, Tavin was coming down with something that included a horrible cough, so he definitely had less energy than usual, but he was a trooper running around with Koen.  They have been playing so well at playgrounds this Spring.  Again, another encouraging thing as we head into the summer months!  On Sunday, we headed to Anderson Playground again joined by Uncle Nate, Aunt Megan and their boys.  Tavin's cold or allergy cough/runny nose was out of control, so we didn't last that long and the poor thing was kind of a mess the whole time we were there.  So Koen ended up really palling around with Penn.  Penn was thrilled.
Koen wanted to take a picture with my camera (oh how he loves to get his hands on my camera!), so he tried to get Alex and Tav together.  This was Tav's silly smile.  Oh my goodness.
Then Tavin wanted to take a picture too of course.  Here's what he got.
Like I said, Tav didn't last long, so we headed home at noon.  He was so uncomfortable he just wanted to go to nap and was down by 12:30pm.  That left Penn, Koen and I to play indoors until Penn's naptime at 1:30pm.  While I was laying Tav down, Penn and Koen came up with their own plan for entertainment...crazy, silly brother time.  And it was absolutely priceless.  They did ring around the rosy, Koen did a silly stuffed animal puppet show for Penn, they played soccer with a balloon and then Penn randomly started doing somersaults.  I have no idea where he learned this.  He did some completely legitimate somersaults, but he also got dizzy and silly and was just all over the place.  I, of course, had to run and grab my camera to get some video footage.  My favorite part is how much fun you can see that Koen and Penn are having together.  It was a really special hour between these two brothers.
Koen and I had a fantastic afternoon together while the little guys napped and then in the evening Koen, Penn and I played and worked in the backyard while poor Tav just lay on the couch watching a few little shows to tide him over until dinnertime.  He was miserable!  We made through the night though and Daddy got home from DC right before bathtime and bedtime.  Perfect that they got to see him and perfect that I got a hand in the lay down process.  The Lord is good, the boys and I had a great weekend where we are all kept safe, enjoyed each other and the gorgeous weather and also lots of friends and then thankfully were reunited with Daddy before its end.
