On Friday night when Doug went to work he found a pair of Disney on Ice tickets on his desk. He texted me about the anonymous gift and said, "you and Koen have a fun date tomorrow!" I was so excited! I've always been a big fan of figure skating, but have never seen a performance live. Koen was happy too and I was glad to get some one on one time with K. So, after our playground time, we headed downtown to the event. It was a montage of shortened versions of Disney favorites and single numbers from other Disney classics. All the while, Mickey and Minnie Mouse and their sidekicks narrated and provided transitions. It's really cute and a lot of it is a throwback to old-school Disney. Koen enjoyed all of it, even the parts that included films and songs he was unfamiliar with. It's more than skating, it's music, lights and simple special effects. Here are the pics I was able to snatch.
This was Aladdin, those are lots of genies.
Finding Nemo.
Beauty and the Beast.
Toy Story.
It's A Small World After All.
The Incredibles.
They did a big grand finale skate which was impressive to see how many people were involved in the production and to see how many features they covered in the show (Lion King, Snow White, Mulan, Little Mermaid, Pinocchio to name some that I missed pics of).
It was a great show. It was a wonderful production. Not overdone, very enjoyable and filled with talented skaters/actors that did a wonderful job spreading the fun of Disney. Oh, and Koen and I had such a nice time relaxing together and taking it all in. Here's our attempt at capturing that we were there.
Then Koen wanted to take a pic of me to send to Doug. Here's the happy mommy enjoying her skating show. Thumbs up to Doug!
And a huge thank you to the generous giver of the tickets. I love taking advantage of fun stuff in the Burgh and exposing the kids to all sorts of performing arts. This was a blast!
