Family Picnic at Mellon Park

Tonight all 5 of us enjoyed a family picnic with our church community at Mellon Park.  It was super hot and humid, but thankfully there was an amazing breeze that kept it quite tolerable.  It was great to be out as a family all together and enjoy an evening with friends outdoors.  And believe it or not, I got pictures!  Here are Koen and Tavin and their friend, Kaiser, enjoying playing with a fallen branch (that's right, boys loves sticks and this one was particularly attractive since it was big and had leaves to pull off of it).

The boys also spent some time running around on the playground with their friends.  Tavin especially enjoyed some special one-on-one time with Doug.  They played on the swings and then Tavin had fun doing the twirly slide all by himself.  Enjoy the happy video!
While Tav and Daddy were busy on the playground, Koen and I spotted a kite further down the park.  Koen and I pushed Penn over to watch it a little closer.  Koen identified it first as an eagle (I thought hawk from farther away), but then he re-identified it correctly as an owl. And it just so happened that it was some neighbors of ours that were flying it!  They invited the very enamored Koen to give it a try flying the kite himself.  He was thrilled (but also a little timid, very cute).  Here are the pictures I managed to snag even though Penn decided to throw a very loud fit at the same time and I was holding him at this point.

We had to leave after Koen's kite-flying to get home in time to feed Penn.  It was a great evening out though.  The boys did well with the heat, picnic and activities.  When we got home I fed Penn and Doug laid the big boys down.  Doug is such a champ with Koen and Tavin.  I'm so blessed to have a husband who is such a hands on dad (not to mention he loves his time with his sons).  Well, that's probably all the blogging for the weekend.  Sunday tomorrow = no Daddy and much less hands-free time. =)
