Playgroup Christmas Party

Today I hosted a Christmas Party for our little playgroup. It was a lot of fun. Somewhat controlled chaos, but very fun. We had 3 three-year-olds, 1 four year-old, 1 two-year-old and 6 babies under 1 year of age! Talk about a full house!

The kids played downstairs as people arrived. I laid Tavin down for a nap and then we headed into the kitchen for the "big" kids to decorate Christmas cookies. They seemed to really enjoy the activity. And they all really liked the cookies too. I think Kaiser liked them the best. He was more into the eating than the decorating. So cute!
Some of the babies looked on in anticipation of years to come...
Koen was very meticulous. When he was frosting the snowman, he said, "no, Mommy, I'm not done yet, I have to cover all his skin."
After this activity we went upstairs to the playroom where the babies could play more comfortably on the carpet. Tavin was next door in his room and slept through some of the playtime amazingly enough and then I think he just listened to us for about a half hour. Ah, second-borns, it's freeing to have more confidence as a mom and in what a baby can take! =)
Koen had a little trouble sharing his toys at times, so he took some alone time in the haven of his top bunk. He eventually came down and played nicely again, but it was a little embarassing that he was antisocial, but I guess that's a typical 3 year old - you never know what you're going to get!
After playtime upstairs we went back downstairs for a snacky lunch. Everyone contributed a healthy snack and it was a great spread of kid and mom friendly finger foods. I love snacky lunch! Tavin enjoyed it as he had both strawberries and mommy's healthy whole wheat cookies for the first time. Big day!
Then, finally, the much-anticipated present opening occured. Koen had been asking for it all morning. We had assigned the to/from for each of the "big" kids (figuring it wasn't really worth the time and money to get gifts for the babies). It was cute to see these little guys and girls who are growing up together exchange gifts.

Naptime was drawing closer and these kids were tired from all their time together, so everyone left by 1:15pm. It was a great time with friends for all...both mom and kids. Thanks everyone for coming and contributing to lunch! We will definitely do it again! Merry Christmas!
PS - Tavin is learning to do stairs! He just showed the new skill to Koen and I for the first time today after everyone left. Uh oh!!! You can tell he's proud of himself!
