A Night With Old Friends

Tonight we got to hang out with Nate and Megan and their kids as well as our old friends from Grove City (and our old small group when we lived in Bellevue years ago), Beth and James.  We all have careers, kids and mortgages now.  So grown up!  The conversation and the ambiance has changed over the years (picture kids everywhere making noise and needing things constantly vs. back in the old days when it was just us adults playing Rook), but it's still fun to get together and share a slice of life together.  Here are a few pics from our evening together.  Unfortunately the only picture I got of Beth and James' two girls with our boys was fuzzy and therefore not worth putting on the blog.  The girls were a delight (and a welcome relief) amidst the clang and clamor of 5 little guys between Nate and Megan's 2 and our 3.  Wow.  That's a lot of little boy noise!

When we first arrived Doug grabbed snuggly Andy from Megan.  He nuzzled right in on Doug.  Pretty precious!
Penn didn't get jealous because (well, it wasn't me for one thing) he was too busy stuffing his face.  He was super excited about the grapes Aunt Megan offered.
Before dinner we got the boys outside.  Andy and Penn shared a little time on the blanket.  Don't worry, they got happier when we brought out some toys.
Koen, Tav and Alex got busy digging up the backyard.  Koen was super brave (and very proud about it) with the worms he found.
Here are the very, busy digger boys.

See, I told you they got happier.  Penn is deciding what he wants to play with first.
We eventually went inside for dinner.  Koen and Alex enjoyed sharing the kids table.  Here they are saying, "cheese," to each other.
After dinner, the adults tried to chat it up around the dinner table, but the decibel level of the kids playing indoors got a little intense, so we all got back outside before too long.  Just a few more pics to share of adorable Penn doing a great job hanging in there until well past his bedtime.

Thanks so much to Nate and Megan for hosting (and Alex and Andy so generously sharing their stuff).  It was a fun night.  Great to see you Beth and James!  We'll look forward to the next time we can all hang out and get these kids together (or maybe we'll just get a few babysitters and leave them home and go out!).
