Yesterday was our last day of our family getaway weekend. We are now safely home and settling into our normal routine (I've already been to the gym, Doug's about to leave for work and the boys are chatting away in their rooms).
We ate breakfast at the hotel and then headed for a quick swim in the indoor pool there. I wanted to get the boys some physical exercise before being cooped up in the car most of the day. Plus, I'm so practical, since we had the benefit of a pool I wanted to use it! Koen loved it. I could tell he's missed swimming now that the summer's over. So I was glad we took advantage of it.
After getting cleaned up and packed, we headed out to the car for our last stop before heading home. We went and visited my friend Melissa only about 15 minutes from our hotel in NJ. She has an almost 3 year old, Jake, who we were eager to introduce to our boys and let them have a little playdate before the long ride.
I wish I had taken a picture of the beautiful Italian lunch feast Melissa prepared for us. It was so delicious. She is an amazing hostess. Thank you so much, Melissa! One of our best meals the whole trip! Not to mention that it was great to see your home and finally get the boys together.
Jake was a gracious little host sharing his toys with no complaints. My boys on the other hand were showing obviously that they were tired, run down and on the cranky side. Sharing and responding rationally to conflict were not happening. Melissa and Jake were understanding thankfully. Here's Tavin with the truck he played with for the whole 2 hours were there. He was not nice if anyone tried to take it!Since Tavin is so used to having a big brother he loves hanging out with little guys slightly older than he. Jake was entertaining to him. =)Koen enjoyed that Jake is a builder and he had some fun blocks to play with (not to mention an awesome big dump truck!).Doug took one "timed" picture in the courtyard of Melissa's building on our way out. Amazingly enough it turned out pretty well. When we were taking it Doug said, "last day of vacation," and Koen said, "yep, it's our last day of vacation...of course, it's going to be kind of boring because we'll be in the car for a long drive." Oh, Koen!Well, it was a great family time away. A wonderful experience to be with the boys and expose them to some new sights and introduce them to new friends. We are also excited to be home though. Gotta go...almost time to get the boys and start this "normal" day!
