Today’s plan was NO PLAN! We all slept in a bit. Doug and I spent hours on the front porch catching up on Bible reading and books. We did a little run. He took the boys down to the river to play in the water and build dams, I stayed at the cabin to workout and catch up on correspondence. We had a thunderstorm with hail that was quite exciting!
Eventually in the afternoon we took a hike on the Geyser Spring Trail just down the road to Colorado’s only natural geyser spring. You could smell the sulfur all the way up the trail. And look we even spotted some bubbling about halfway up!
The geyser spring was an impressive sight! Also a bit of sensory overload for the senses. Definitely a strong sulfur smell and there were warnings to not get too close to the surface because the bubbles of carbon dioxide and the sulfuric gases can cause some people to pass out! So much for a soak! We did get a good picture though (and all remained conscious).
Also impressive was the thunderstorm that rolled in dropping hail and then LOTS of rain for our descent back down to the trailhead. It made for a more memorable experience for sure! The boys were troopers. And we all enjoyed the scenery, outdoor time and adventure of it all.
The temp had dropped a lot, so when we got back we all got cozy and had quiet reading and game time (ok, Doug and I read quietly and the boys played the loudest game of Monopoly you’ve ever heard). We finished the night with dinner and lots of reading time. Oh how good it is to unplug!!
