Telluride

Our remote spot is actually well-situated in a day’s drive to many interesting spots.  Too many for this one trip.  But we did decide on Thursday (the 14th) to drive over to Telluride.  We still enjoyed a laid back morning on the front porch and then the boys all went down to play in the river while I got us ready for the adventure.  Here’s a video of the serene sounds off the front porch…

And here’s Koen chilling out in the hammock under the pine trees waiting for us to load up.

We piled in the Venture Van and this was an adventure.  We took the “back” way, the shortest way and definitely the treacherous way.  We didn’t realize it would be like that!  But between Doug’s good driving, some God-provided perfect pull-over situations for when people needed to pass and gorgeous views, we made it!

We did decide though that we would not return that route!!

Telluride is adorable.  Lively, a tip to the olden days, but also beautifully cared for and curated.  We parked and geared up for our first stop…a trip up the free Gondola, lunch in Mountain Village and then a hike between the two gondola stops.  So fun!  Almost feels like a charming European alpine village, but definitely has that over-priced, over-perfected American feel, but altogether quite nice.

Gondola shots!

This one is hilarious.  Tavin is smiling in the first and then proceeded to sneeze.  I caught the whole thing. So cute!  This poor kid is allergic to everything and so basically sneezes often and always has some form of a runny nose and congestion.  But he doesn’t complain.  He’s just that awesome.

Hiking above Telluride.  Gorgeous views of mountains, waterfalls and the town below and then through thick Aspen forests.  Wonderful!  And we all were moving along great.  So much better than the hot park hikes we’ve been doing.  The temp was 70 and overcast most of the time!

After returning to the town we walked around a little and found a playground for the boys to run out some energy before the less exciting, slightly longer drive home.  Doug made a good call on that though because there was a torrential downpour during the drive that would have made the other road a disaster.  We arrived safely at the cabin in time to throw dinner together and get everyone to bed just on time.  Phew!
