We said goodbye to the beautiful spot off the grid this morning (Friday, the 15th) and drove back into cell phone range (for a bit) and wove our way through Southwest Colorado with our destination being Great Sand Dunes National Park. First though on our way we stopped in historic Durango for our awesome driver to get a coffee and for me to take a few sentimental pictures of the railroad station. This was another stop on my childhood cross country trip. It was an exciting, memorable ride for sure! If we had more time (and wanting to spend hundreds of dollars on one stop) we would have done it for sure, but you can’t fit everything in in 7 weeks across this grand country!
We eventually made it to the Great Sand Dunes. We went out of the way for this unique park. And it is pretty surprising to see all the sudden in front of the gorgeous mountains a gigantic set of pure sand dunes. It was a quick stop, but hey, we can say we’ve seen it and it was truly a spectacle to see (but also hot, so we kept it short!). Here’s the dunes against the mountains on our approach.
Tav taking it in…
Then hilariously I almost caught him in another sneeze shot!! He recovered and gave me this awesome good natured smile.
It’s like we are at the beach! But there’s no water!
Mom and her brood on the dunes…Now we are off to a friend’s place in Salida, CO!
