So, I feel like I rarely take the time to describe what's going on in Jansen's development. So, I had a few pictures to share that were from random times this week and thought that since I couldn't figure out which blog post to stick them in, I'd just do a quick one all about Janse.
Jansen is somewhat mobile these days. He's an avid roller. It's hilarious how far he can get and how good he is at figuring out how to get whatever he lays his eyes on. I left for about 30 seconds after setting him under his jungle gym thing (which he's totally outgrown, but occasionally serves as a good distraction) and look what he found! He grabbed the basket out of the coffeetable, dumped it and was playing with the cars. And look how proud he is!
Similar to all my other babies, Jansen LOVES to be outside. He's still quite the jumper, but is most happy in his jumper thing out on the front porch. He is attentive to all the sounds, the cars driving by, whatever his brothers are doing and neighbors stopping by to say hi (he has a few fans next door that seem to know the second we are on the front porch!). This week there was a mild morning that Jansen and I spent on the front porch after Doug took Penn to preschool and the boys were already off to school. It was just breakfast with my littlest and it was a precious moment. I miss my boys when they are away, but it's for moments like these that I'm thankful for the margin it provides. Janse looks happy too.
Jansen is quite the noise-maker, especially in his crib. He grunts, he babbles, he laughs, gurgles and ooh's and aah's. I love listening to him on the monitor. He likes to grab the blanket he sleeps with and stick his mouth (wide open) on it and just say, "ahhhh." He rolls and thrashes his legs around in his crib and gets himself cracking up. Rarely does he get upset in his safe little nest. He just enjoys the calm and quiet of his own private space I think. I LOVE getting him up in the mornings or after a nap. He pops his little head up over the bumper and immediately gives me a wide smile. He's often now rocking back and forth on all fours, practicing for crawling which seems to be right around the corner. In this pic, he was just up on his knees, but I missed it by an instant, his wide smiled remained though and was totally worth sharing. I can't wait to get him up in the mornings, can't you see why?
I don't have a picture handy for this one, but here's a quick update on Jansen's eating these days. He is a big fan of real food. He still nurses four times a day (at 3 meals and once before bed), but he also has real food at each of the 3 meals. In the morning, he has a light appetite and has a half of banana. I've tried mixing it with whole grain cream of wheat, but he hasn't decided if he likes that yet. At lunch he has a green veggie/whole grain combo baby food and then a pureed fruit. At dinner he has an orange veggie and then whole grain baby cereal. I have yet to introduce protein, but hope to soon. I wait til a year to introduce dairy, so we have a ways to go on that. He really likes his food though and it's fun for me to have a pretty easy-going customer since I'm making up these baby food recipes myself. He occasionally disagrees with my experiments, but for the most part is good about not wasting my efforts.
As for sleep, this guy is a champ. He takes two naps a day. They vary in length, but average is a good hour and a half in the morning and 2-3 hours in the afternoon. He sleeps from 7pm at night until some time between 6:30 & 7:45am in the morning, but he stays happily in his crib til I get him to feed him at 7:45am.
Jansen, you are a JOY. There's no other way to describe it. I love you and I am so blessed by your sweet presence and personality all day, every day. Since you are upstairs sleeping right now, I'm already looking forward to wake-up tomorrow morning and that sweet smile.
